Rug underlay

Why do I need Underlay?

There are a number of reasons why you should purchase Underlay to use with your rug. Underlay should be considered as an investment that will assist in maintaining your rugs showroom appearance for the duration of the its lifetime and as a safety precaution to avoid tripping hazards.

Underlay will:

  • Stop your rug from moving on hard floors and creeping on carpet.
  • Stop your rug from curling at the corners and pushing up against coffee table legs or other pieces of furniture.
  • Stop your rug from stretching out of shape.
  • Provide extra cushioning.
  • Stop abrasion on timber or delicate floor surfaces.
  • Avoid tripping hazards from sliding , creasing or curling.

About our Teebaud Underlay

Teebaud Underlay is made in America and unlike other cheaper alternatives Teebaud will continue to work long past the life of your rug

TEEBAUD® has been developed and engineered to obtain the best nonskid performance for a rug underlay. The product is made of two different polyester fibres needle-punched together and coated, on both sides with a specially formulated water-based pressure sensitive dry adhesive. It is this specially formulated coating which allows Teebaud to outperform Underlays coated with a plain polymeric-acrylic resin. TEEBAUD®’s two components, containing 12 ounces of fibre per square yard, gives the Underlay enough body and density to resist the horizontal movement that creates the buckling effect of the underlay under the rug. This is why TEEBAUD® has almost one pound of fibre per yard, compared to most competing products which commonly have only 3 to 4 ounces of fibre. The light cushioning effect allows the Underlay and the rug to breathe together with no risk of oxidation or discoloration to any flooring surface. TEEBAUD® will not give a permanent bond to the floor. It is a repositionable underlay: harmless to carpeting, floors and rugs.

Installation of Teebaud Underlay

TEEBAUD® is a multi-purpose non-skid underlay. It can be used on wall-to-wall carpeting or on smooth flooring surfaces. In order to obtain maximum satisfaction and the best results with TEEBAUD®, here are the installation procedures to be followed:

RUG on smooth flooring surface:

  • Cut TEEBAUD® about 2-3cm smaller than the rug to be installed.
  • Remove the plastic release liner.
  • Place TEEBAUD®'s gray side down, facing the smooth floor.
  • Then place the rug on top of TEEBAUD®'s white side.

RUG on wall-to-wall carpeting:

  • Cut TEEBAUD® 2-3cm smaller than the rug to be installed.
  • Remove the plastic release liner.
  • Place TEEBAUD®'s white side down, facing the wall-to-wall carpeting.
  • Then place the rug on top of TEEBAUD®'s gray side.

TEEBAUD® can be easily cut with scissors or a utility knife however in most cases we will provide it to fit the size of your rug. If the Underlay protrudes past the area of the rug it can be trimmed with scissors to the desired size.

Prior to installing TEEBAUD®, the floor should be vacuumed, clean and dry. Do not install TEEBAUD® on a wet floor. In order to obtain a long-lasting non-skid performance, avoid frequent removal and re-installation of TEEBAUD® from its designated installation area.

If several pieces of TEEBAUD® are necessary for one rug, simply apply as many pieces as needed, side-by-side. Taping or splicing is NOT necessary.

TEEBAUD® is guaranteed not to mar, stain, oxidize or discolor properly installed, finished and maintained floors and carpeting.

Which side faces up on carpet?

The grey side faces up over carpeting while the white side faces up on hard flooring surfaces. See the full installation details for more information.

Will Teebaud® leave a residue?

TEEBAUD® will not leave a residue on carpet. However, when installed on a smooth surface, TEEBAUD® may leave a slight residue which is water soluble. The residue can be cleaned with water or common household cleaners.

Is Teebaud® washable?

We do not recommend washing Teebaud®.

Teebaud® is safe for use on radiant heated floors installed for residential application with temperatures not exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Is Teebaud® recommended for outdoor use?

Teebaud® can be installed outdoors in areas protected from weather. In areas not protected from the weather, the non-skid property of the underlay may wear out sooner than normal.

Do multiple pads need to be taped together?

If several pieces of Teebaud® are necessary for one rug, simply apply as many pieces as needed, side-by-side. Taping or splicing is not necessary.

What tools are needed to trim the pad?

Teebaud® requires no special tools for trimming. The pad is easily trimmed using household scissors or a utility knife.
